In Memorium

It is with profound sadness that the AfChix community mourns the passing of Ms. Nodumo Dhlamini in April 2025. For over two decades, Ms Nodumo was a pillar of our organisation, embodying our mission to empower African women in technology.

Her AFCHIX Legacy

As a dedicated Board member and mentor, Nodumo was instrumental in strengthening the AfChix community across Africa. She sacrificed her time and resources to volunteer, support our initiatives, and mentor countless women entering the technology sector. Her leadership helped AfChix impact over 25 African countries and win international recognition, including the USAID WomenConnect Challenge.

Nodumo’s approach to mentorship was deeply personal. She didn’t just offer advice – she invested in futures. From paying application fees for aspiring students to providing guidance that helped women navigate career challenges, she saw potential in others and acted to nurture it.

Beyond Professional Excellence

While serving as Director of ICT Services at the Association of African Universities, Nodumo brought her expertise in IT & Business Strategy to AfChix, always focusing on how technology could better serve African women and communities.

Those who worked with her remember her exceptional character: the rare ability to show grace when mistakes occurred, find joy in small things, and remain authentically herself. Dr. Houda Chakiri reflected that despite being close in age, she “often looked to her like one would to a mother — someone who offered guidance with warmth and sincerity.”

Living Her Values Daily

Nodumo’s WhatsApp status, “Her Royal Highness, Queen Nodumo,” reflected her self-awareness and confidence. She served from a full cup, understanding that true leadership comes from lifting others. Her daily choices embodied AfChix values:

  • Compassion in every interaction
  • Dedication to excellence and community
  • Generosity with time, resources, and knowledge
  • Authenticity that made everyone feel safe to grow
Her Continuing Impact

Though taken from us far too soon, Nodumo’s spirit lives on through AfChix’s continued work empowering women across Africa. The communities she helped build, the women she mentored, and the networks she strengthened continue to transform lives and bridge the digital divide.

As Dorcas Muthoni, AfChix Founder, shared: “Some people enter our lives and fundamentally change them for the better. Queen Nodumo Dhlamini was such a person.”

The best tribute we can offer is to embody the qualities that made Queen Nodumo exceptional: her kindness, dedication, and genuine care for others. Her kindness was not mere pleasantry – it was a deliberate daily choice that transformed our community.

Rest in eternal peace, dear Queen Nodumo. Your legacy of excellence, compassion, and empowerment will forever guide the AfChix community and illuminate the path for African women in technology.
